8.3 PRAYER: C. Gray

NEW BUSINESS

8.4 Social Responsibility: Proposal: K. Webster

Proposal: Storage space for food pantry for YCAP through SPIL

Discussion:

-       Outcomes

  • Yamhill County Action Partnership (YCAP) proposed to GFU that they need storage space to run this ministry
  • The people wanting to make this program work are very dedicated and see the direct need for a food pantry on campus

-       Decisions

  • They just need ASC storage space, SPIL and YCAP will be managing and directing all of the programming and coordinating
  • Wary of traffic of distribution area
    • Traffic of distribution area is a concern because our storage spaces in the FoxHole we don’t want a lot of traffic there.
  • Storage space being used as a place to prep boxes of food?
    • Proposal said they would only use the space once-twice a month, is the storage space really needed then if they aren’t using it frequently?
  • It wouldn’t cost ASC a lot… just two shelving units
    • We want to serve students the best, there’s just a lot of details and we want to be most efficient in helping our students
    • That’s a lot of shelving space if we don’t even have our activities closet figured out
      • If we get to a point where ASC NEEDS more storage space, where do we go if that space is taken?
  • Is this overdoing the many opportunities students have to get food?
    • J. Witherspoon can connect students to many different resources
    • Wish we knew the population of student who would use a food pantry
  • Would this be serving community members, or just Fox students?
    •  A bit uncomfortable about serving students outside GFU
    • B. Lau needs to be in this conversation
  • This wouldn’t interfere with work with The Bon
  • It would be great to partner with SPIL on this ministry

-       Actions

  • One-two month trail?
  • We will not move forward without the opinion with B. Lau

Call to Table: M. Peterson

Seconded: E. Lopez

Motion to Table Passes: 7-0-0

8.5 Clubs: Proposal: E. Lopez

Proposal: Fitness club constitution

Discussion:

-       Outcomes

  • They will do car washes and Olympics as fundraisers
    • Great idea!

-       Decisions

  • Budget looks great as well
    • $1000
    • Central Committee doesn’t need to approve it
  • They have five committed people, but will be drawing lots of people in especially looking at their roster

-       Actions

Call to Question: M. Peterson

Seconded: N. Ho

Motion Passes: 7-0-0

8.6 Activities: SPIL proposal: E. Lopez

Proposal: Gift movie rights to SPIL so they could have an event with Little Bruins

Discussion:

-       Outcomes

  • Proposal from previous week, revisited through discussion

-       Decisions

  • SPIL would have to scrounge to find the money
  • When we run out of movie rights, we run out
  • Still an event for students (about 50) who are helping mentor the little bruins
    • Closed event to protect kids
    • ASC doesn’t really do closed events
      • Academic clubs are usually closed
      • Gifting movie right would be about $550

-       Actions

Call to Questions: M. Peterson

Seconded: D. Bogert

Motion Passes: 4-3-1

DISCUSSION

-       Event conflicts

  • We shouldn’t conflict our ASC events
    • Maximize student involvement
    • Develop unity so everyone can go to everyone
    • Need to go about it carefully to show that ASC cares about getting everyone involved, not just ASC shutting down events

-       Budget spending

  • Weird budget, spending our money but carefully spending it
  • We don’t want to end the year and have a lot of money leftover
    • But we’re saving for a new Rec Center- a new space
    • With things like random concerts, or other big costs, what’s the balance of saying no to save for the future, or going all out for the present- the current students that paid into the current ASC budget
      • We can’t say no to good things
        • But what’s a good thing?
        • We probably won’t have a lot of money left over because we spent $34k on the fireplace for the new dining hall
        • We don’t know current budget because we don’t know how much of the FoxHole refresh came from current budget or past budgets
        • It’s a weird/difficult balance of being really smart with our spending
          • We should not spend money freely just because we need to spend our entire budget
          • Should try and be most cost effective in everything that we do
            • Longevity
            • ASC organizational problem
            • Trusting Reps with CLF & APF is wise
              • APF Conferences is a tricky thing to deal with

-       Aaron Strumple

  • $250 for a concert during Shalom time
  • Advertised as a concert with full chapel credit
  • Cap & Gown or FoxHole?
    • FoxHole makes better environment but Cap & Gown would make it more of a SPIL event

-       Need to have further conversation about APF

-       Movie rights to SPIL

  • SPIL would have to scrounge to find the money
  • When we run out of movie rights, we run out
  • Still an event for students (about 50) who are helping mentor the little bruins
    • Closed event to protect kids
    • ASC doesn’t really do closed events
      • Academic clubs are usually closed
      • Gifting movie right would be about $550

-       Bruin Brawl back up plan

  • Having difficulties with helicopter company, so we need a back up
  • Lots of foam
  • Bury it
  • Drop it off EHS while playing helicopter noise off the speakers
  • Tie it to a bunch of balloons
  • Kyle should announce the Brawl

-       Big picture reflection/ Looking forward
