FRESHMAN: QUESTIONS
We see freshmen as individuals needing to ask a myriad of questions about careers and how their unique gifts fit a particular occupational field. They do not need to be decided about a major at this point in time. They need to do the following:
  • Start a career information file to later develop into a professional portfolio
  • Begin examining their life purpose and mission
  • Familiarize themselves with Career Services and its Web site
  • Take formal and informal assessments to learn about work values, interests, skills, and personalities
  • Look at the possibilities for university membership in organizations, ways to volunteer, gather information at job and career fairs
  • Talk with faculty and students about particular majors; use the catalog
  • Become familiar with the entire scope of what the world of work has to offer
