Career Services Objectives


Our Mission Statement

"*To offer comprehensive career services *based on career theory and practice, biblical perspective and the university mission to a diverse university population by providing career education, career counseling /advising, and employment resources*with the result of equipping these populations with necessary lifelong career planning/job search skills and tools necessary for effective, successful transitions into the work force."

Career Counseling and Guidance
â?¢ Provide counsel and guidance related to seeking a suitable career using defined developmental tasks/characteristics, addressing special needs and populations to include the following:
selecting a major, using the services provided, making a career decision, gaining work experience, conducting proper career research using labor market information, gaining admission to grad school, writing a resume/vita/cover letter, creating a portfolio, practicing for an effective interview, finding suitable employment, surviving the first job and using electronic resources.

Career Education and Information
â?¢ Make career information and education readily available, comprehensive and current.
Perspectives in addressing changing career trends with regard to demographics, technology, nature of work and globalization providing opportunities to learn about career decision making, occupational exploration, work experience, seeking employment or gaining admission to grad school examining each with the biblical perspective in mind.
(e.g. Career Center Library and On-line courses--GEED 214, 216, and 218)

Employment Services
â?¢ Assist students in finding a wide range of employment possibilities that match their career goals, preparing them with skills and tools to market themselves as the best possible candidates for employment, providing avenues for employers and students to make personal contact while at the same time promoting relationship/partnership between career services and employers.
(e.g. Spring Jobs Fair, Job Hunter's Success Workshop)

Grad School Preparation
â?¢ Help students explore fully the educational opportunities available to them, assisting them with the application process so they will effectively present themselves to grad school admissions officers and provide opportunities for students to connect with grad school reps in an array of formats.
(e.g. Guest Expert on Grad Admissions, GRE Preparation)

Experiential Education and Career Exploration
â?¢ Offer guidance, preparation, supervision and leads for students seeking work experience for credit, in service-learning/volunteer opportunities also providing opportunities for short-term exposure to the workplace thus enhancing the career decision process along with skill development leading to quality employment.
(e.g. Internship Fair, Virtual Internship Center)
