POSITION OVERVIEW:   At George Fox University, we’re taking a new approach to content generation and storytelling for Bruin Athletics. The Sports Information Director/Assistant Director of Sports Marketing must possess the following core attributes and abilities to help us achieve our vision to become the ‘team to beat’ in NCAA Division III sports with the most formative athletic experience in the country.

  • Experience in statistics across multiple sports and the ability to equip a team of students and volunteers to be part of the stats gathering process.

Sports Marketing and Communication

  • Produce or manage the production of game recaps, player profiles, season previews and all other storytelling opportunities for Bruin Athletics in a way that extends brand awareness among prospective student athletes.
  • Devise and execute efficient and innovative ways to create, collect, and communicate the following elements to effectively market Bruin athletics and comply with NCAA and Northwest Conference standards:
    • Athletic results & statistics;
    • Rosters & athlete bios;
    • Schedules & season logs;
    • Athletic records & archives;
    • Game & feature stories;
  • Manage content on the athletics website, ensuring it’s up to date, accurate and consistent with brand guidelines.
    • Ensure requested changes are made promptly;
    • Coordinate effectively with design and web teams as needed;
    • Communicate with coaches to ensure sports-specific pages are meeting their needs;
    • Routinely check Google Analytics for metrics and data;

Game Day Operations

    • Coordinate volunteers and student employees to deliver top-tier game day experience:
      • Oversee students collecting event content (stats, stories, etc.)
      • Gather and manage a team of volunteers to assist with PA, official book, score keeping,  etc;
    • Under the direction of the Director of Sports Marketing, complete assigned tasks relating to fan engagement, multimedia content, etc.;
    • Help facilitate fan outreach programs to both students and the community.
  • Athletic Branding
    • Ability to interact with members of the media on stories that positively position Bruin Athletics;
    • Assist in branding efforts through social media;
    • Assist in fan relations programs as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Work experience in communications, marketing, media relations, or sports information preferred;
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed;
  • Ability to lead volunteer and student groups effectively to complete goal-oriented tasks;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, coaches, colleagues, partners, and fans required;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal;
  • High level of dependability, detail orientation, and commitment to goals;
  • Ability to work within NCAA rules and Federal Title IX regulations;
  • Familiarity with athletic statistics required; experience with statistical software programs preferred;
  • A Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the institution’s goals, including signed agreement with GFU Statement of Faith and Statement of Community Responsibilities;
  • Candidates should value an environment that reflects the diversity of God’s kingdom, engages in global concerns, and connects culturally;
  • Ability to lift and move material up to 40 pounds and get to elevated press boxes.

STARTING COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience.
