Dean, College of Education

The Position:  George Fox University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Education.  This is a 12-month administrative appointment to begin no later than July 1, 2017.

The College of Education is comprised of multiple units including:
  • Preservice teacher preparation programs (undergraduate and graduate levels),
  • School counselor and psychologist preparation programs,
  • Preservice and inservice school administrator programs
  • Graduate programs for inservice teachers,
  • Doctor of Education,
  • Clinical Mental Health and Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling programs,
  • Adult Degree Completion programs with five majors in business and social/ behavioral studies, and an
  • English Language Institute serving international students across the university.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for the College of Education and is responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring the effective operation of the College in support of the mission and goals of the University;
  • Working with faculty, staff, students, university constituents, and K-12 educators to promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community learning;
  • Serving as an innovative and dynamic advocate for the College and its programs among diverse groups of education and community leaders, government, and with the general public;
  • Providing leadership to maintain CAEP and CACREP professional accreditations;
  • Serving as an engaged member of University leadership teams;
  • Managing the College’s budgets, fiscal planning, and grant writing efforts;
  • Promoting the scholarly initiatives of the College;
  • Recruiting, supervising, developing, and evaluating faculty and staff; and
  • Articulating the importance of integrating faith and learning to all constituencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful higher education or K-12 leadership experience;
  • Ability to create and implement a shared vision with faculty;
  • Earned doctorate appropriate to a College of Education and credentials suitable for a senior faculty appointment, with a record of accomplishment in teaching, scholarship, leadership, and service;
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in a Christian environment, committed to the integration of faith and learning with the education, counseling, and business disciplines;
  • Appreciation of diversity and the ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, administrators, and students;
  • Commitment to professional development of faculty and staff;
  • Strong communication skills;
