PART-TIME LEAD COOK
Tilikum Center for Retreats and Outdoor Ministries


OPENING DATE: October 7, 2009

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: Part time; 12 months; hours vary:  Nov - Mar, 5-10 hrs/wk; Apr - Oct, 20-30 hrs/wk.

START DATE: November 1, 2009



RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Lead Cook is responsible for preparing high quality, visually appealing meals for Tilikum’s guests.  The Lead Cook will also see that guest food service needs are met in a friendly and hospitable manner, while supervising food service assistants during his/her working shift.  The Lead Cook will also clean up and share responsibilities for areas of sanitation, inventory and record keeping.

Other essential responsibilities are as follows:
Prepare tasty, visually appealing and timely meals for groups of 15-100 people.  Uphold Tilikum’s standards for presentation and garnishing of food.  Accommodate special dietary requests when necessary.  Able to follow recipes and prepare foods from scratch.  Supervise Food Service Assistants during work shift.  Maintain and exceed county, state, ACA and other sanitation standards.  Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate enjoys cooking and is a good cook.  Must be in good physical condition, including ability to negotiate stairs, stand for 8-10 hours and lift 40-50 pounds.  Strong organizational skills, problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.  High level of initiative, ability to work alone and in a team atmosphere with flexibility and creativity. Communicate effectively and courteously.  Availability and willingness to work a wide variety of hours, including weekends and some evenings.  Valid Oregon Driver License and Oregon Food Handler’s card, or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.  Service-minded and strong commitment to Tilikum and its ministry.  Evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the university’s mission as described on our website.


COMPENSATION:    Pay Range $12.00 - $14.00 per hour; depending on experience.
