BruinBoards Frequently Asked Questions

Who has access to BruinBoards?
All students, faculty and staff are given access to BruinBoards through BruinData. Not all members of the community will choose to become an active member of the BruinBoard forum. BruinBoards is restricted to use by current GFU students and employees.

How do I access BruinBoards?
Log into BruinData, and open BruinBoards. After logging on once, you can go directly to bruinboards.georgefox.edu.

How can I change the information in my profile? Log in to BruinBoards, and then

  • Go to the "User Control Panel"
  • Choose "Edit Profile" (Note, you can change any of the fields in your profile, except your username.)
It is your responsibility to update all information in your profile, especially your e-mail address.

What is e-mail notification?
If you post a new thread (a string of messages), or reply to an existing thread, you can choose to be notified by e-mail when someone else replies to that thread. You can also choose to receive e-mail notifications of new posts in a thread without posting in that thread, by clicking the 'Subscribe to this thread' link displayed in the thread page.

What are moderators?
GFU Moderators oversee specific forums. They generally have the ability to edit and delete posts, move threads, and perform other manipulations. Moderators for a specific forum will be assigned by the IT administrator in cooperation with supporting departments or may be approved and sponsored by a GFU faculty member or administrator.

How do I use the calendar?
Students can maintain a private calendar of events on BruinBoards for their use. There are two types of events on the calendar: normal events and recurring events. Normal events span the time frame from when the event starts until the event ends. Recurring events repeat over a set period of time based on certain criteria. Examples would be an event that occurs on the first Monday of every month and an event that occurs every Monday and Wednesday.

How do I change my picture in BruinBoards?
Log in to BruinBoards, and then

  • Go to "User Control Panel"
  • Choose "Edit Avatar"
  • Follow the instructions to upload a photo or image
Note: images need to be either 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB in size, whichever is smaller.
