How to Connect to the ResNet or Public Access Networks

This page covers connecting to the Ethernet network in student housing (ResNet) or at public access locations (see below) on the Newberg and Portland campuses. Newberg students living in houses (except Beals, Chapman, McGrew, and Weesner houses) have wireless networks and should refer to our Wireless Network page.

Ethernet

  • What it is: a physical connection using an Ethernet cord.
  • Where it is: All student halls, suites, and apartments on campus, and several student houses. Public ports are available in the Bruin Den, MLRC Library, EHS Atrium, and Stevens Center. Public ports can also be found on the satellite campuses in some classrooms and some lobby areas.
  • How to connect: just plug in the Ethernet cord to your computer and the data port (these are usually orange). Your computer should automatically detect the network and connect.
  • NOTE: If your computer previously connected from home via modem, DSL, or other means, you may have to reconfigure your computer for the GFU network. If you have trouble connecting your computer, bring it to the IT Service Desk on the third floor of Stevens Center.
