LibGuides and Embedded Librarians
Welcome to LibGuides by GFU Librarians! Faculty teaching courses with a research component, either online or face-to-face with a library instruction session, may request that a course-specific library guide be created.

What are LibGuides?
Course LibGuides are online guides designed to assist students with their library research. Tailored to help students locate high-quality information for their course-specific research assignments, the librarian-created guides lead students to relevant resources and instructions on tasks such as:
- identifying and obtaining books
- searching databases for scholarly journal articles
- requesting materials from other institutions
- getting help from a librarian via email, chat, phone or texting
The guides will help with information literacy skills, such as narrowing topics, selecting good resources, choosing search terms, and finding books and articles.
Each guide has a subject-specialist librarian embedded in it, allowing students to easily get assistance with their research.

Two examples of GFU Course LibGuides:
How do LibGuides work with Foxtale?

Once a librarian has created a course research guide, a new resource widget containing the course research guide can be added to the corresponding Foxtale course site →

← This screenshot shows how the resource widget appears in a FoxTale course (will vary by themes/colors).
Clicking the "Guide to Course Research" button takes students to the course-specific BIBL 100 guide.
How can I request a LibGuide and Embedded Librarian for my course?
To request a guide and embedded librarian, please contact your subject liaison librarian or contact the reference desk at 503.554.2419 or reference@georgefox.edu. A librarian will get back to you.
A key feature of every course guide is the strong personal presence of a librarian. Essentially, the librarian is virtually "embedded" within the guide. Students can easily get assistance with their research by contacting the librarian by chat, phone, email or in-person.
Note: A minimum of four weeks notice is normally required for librarians to plan for a course guide.
"How can I add the Library Resource with Course Guide to my FoxTale course?
Once your librarian notifies you that your course guide is ready, follow these instructions to insert your course guide in FoxTale.
For help with this step and any FoxTale questions, the IT service desk will be happy to assist — 503.554.2569 or email servicedesk@georgefox.edu
