Did You Know That… Mature Bottle Gourds will float. Now, most gourds have no important purpose but to be ornamental use. The earliest gourd remains date from 13,000 to 11,000 BC from Peru, and from coastal Peru as early as 7,000 to 5,000 BC. Other bottle gourds date back to 2,000 BC in South Africa, Zambia, and Egypt.
