Credit Assessment
Transfer credit will be evaluated and assigned a George Fox University course number based on the closest match between the originating course and the George Fox University course descriptions. Courses which are not equivalent will be assigned to the closest matching four letter department code and assigned a 285 (lower division) or 485 (upper division) number. HHPA courses will be assigned a 185 (lower division) or 385 (upper division) number. When the closest match for an originating lower division course is a George Fox University upper division course, the number 285 will be assigned and the student may receive a waiver for the upper division course if required. When the closest match for an originating upper division course is a George Fox University lower division course, the student may elect to have a 485 number assigned (to count towards the upper division course requirement) and receive a waiver for the lower division course. Credit Eligible for Transfer Credit must meet the following to be eligible for transfer. Any evaluation of transfer credit is to be considered tentative until the student has completed 12 hours in good standing. 1. The granting institution must be regionally accredited or alternatively, for undergraduate transfer, accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), formerly American Association of Bible Colleges (AABC). There is no maximum to the number of credits that will be received in transfer from these schools. A. Credit from institutions not regionally or ABHE accredited may still be received in transfer if the institution is of an appropriate level of academic rigor and soundness and the credit earned at the institution can be deemed to be equivalent to what would be earned at George Fox University. There is no maximum to the number of credits, which will be received in transfer from these schools. Credit will be accepted on a conditional basis, pending the student's successful completion of her/his first semester at George Fox University. Currently, approved schools in this category include:

If the institution is not accredited and does not meet the above criteria, students will be asked to provide a copy of the institution's catalog, course syllabi and an official transcript of their course work. The institution will be evaluated to determine if courses are equivalent to similar courses offered at George Fox University and to determine if faculty credentials are similar to George Fox University faculty. If courses and faculty are determined to be equivalent, George Fox University will accept a maximum of 12 semester hours. C. Credit from the following institutions will be accepted at a 3:1 ratio to a maximum of 12 semester hours. (3 credits from the granting institution for one credit at George Fox University.)
2. Undergraduate credit must be at 100 level or above. 000 level credit will not be accepted. Graduate credit must be at 500 level or above (unless received as advanced standing: seminary only).
Assigning Catalog Year For transfer students who entered 2001 through 2003, catalog year was assigned as follows, based on total transfer credits (in semester hours). up to 30.999 credits = freshman catalog year and requirements 31.000-61.999 credits = sophomore catalog year and requirements 62.000-92.999 credits = junior catalog year and requirements 93.000 + credits = senior catalog year and requirements |
