Option 4:

Option 5:
International Transfer credit – for students who have credit from an international institution prior to attending George Fox

Option 1: Current GFU student studying abroad through a George Fox University program in partnership with the Center for Study Abroad.

Courses taken abroad will be transcripted as if the student were enrolled at George Fox during the Semester.  All credit will be transcripted including the grade that was earned.  Coursework will apply to General Education requirements as detailed in our Study Abroad Guides.  If the student would like to earn credit toward General Education or Major/Minor requirements that are not included in the guides, the course must be approved by the student’s Academic Advisor, the appropriate Department Chair and the Registrar’s Office.  A form for receiving the appropriate approvals before you leave can be found in the Registrar’s Office. After the Semester abroad is finished, an official copy of the transcript is sent directly from the program to George Fox University and does not need to go through a third party evaluation.

Option 2: Study abroad through one of the programs George Fox University partners with, but do so independently - either prior to enrollment at GFU or while on a Leave of Absence from the University.

If a student would like to study abroad through one of GFU’s preapproved programs, but is not able to go in partnership with the Center for Study Abroad, the student may take a Leave of Absence from the University in order to do so. Since the program is one with which we already have a partnership, the transcript can be sent directly to George Fox University without a third party evaluation.  The credit will be treated as transfer credit and will only be transferred if a C- or higher is earned Coursework will apply to General Education requirements as detailed in our Study Abroad Guides.

Option 3: Study abroad through a regionally accredited institution – either prior to enrollment at GFU or while on a Leave of Absence from the University.

A student may choose to Study Abroad through another University. In order for the credit to transfer, the University must be regionally accredited and the coursework must be transcripted by the accredited institution. If the coursework is not transcripted through the regionally accredited institution, you must choose Option 4 or 5 depending on the situation. The student must have an official transcript from the University sent to George Fox for evaluation. The credit will be subject to our standard transfer credit policies.  If the student would like to earn credit toward General Education or Major/Minor requirements, the course must be approved by the student’s Academic Advisor, the appropriate Department Chair and the Registrar’s Office.  A form for receiving the appropriate approvals before you leave can be found in the Registrar’s Office.

Option 4: Current GFU student on a Leave of Absence studying internationally (not through a regionally accredited institution)

If you choose this option, we will require a third party evaluation of your transcript. We recommend going through AACRAO International Evaluation Services. You have two options:

1.)    Get the program pre-approved through AACRAO to evaluate whether the credit will be accepted ($35). Then when you finish the program, you will send your transcript to AACRAO to have the credit evaluated ($50).

2.)    If you do not go through the pre-approval process, you can have your final transcript evaluated through AACRAO after you finish the program ($85)

We highly recommend the first option so that you can know if the credit will be accepted before you leave. You may also have the credit evaluated by any of our approved international transcript evaluation partners.

In addition, we require that an English translation be provided for any transcripts that are not in English. Most evaluation services will require this, but if they do not - we will require that an English translation be sent to George Fox along with the original transcript.

If the student would like to earn credit toward General Education or Major/Minor requirements, the course must be approved by the student’s Academic Advisor, the appropriate Department Chair and the Registrar’s Office.  A form for receiving the appropriate approvals before you leave can be found in the Registrar’s Office.

Option 5: International Transfer credit – for students who have credit from an international institution prior to attending George Fox

In this case we will require a third party evaluation of your transcript. You may also have the credit evaluated by any of our approved international transcript evaluation partners.

In addition, we require that an English translation be provided for any transcripts that are not in English. Most evaluation services will require this, but if they do not - we will require that an English translation be sent to George Fox along with the original transcript. Please note that we require a third party evaluation of the transcript even if the transcript is in English.

If the student would like to earn credit toward General Education or Major/Minor requirements, the course must be approved by the student’s Academic Advisor, the appropriate Department Chair and the Registrar’s Office.
