Getting Started at George Fox University

Step One: Apply for admissions at George Fox University
Step Two: Get started using your VA educational benefits
  • Apply to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for your education benefits. if you have not already done so, go to www.GIBill.va.gov
    • After submitting the correct form, please print out a copy for the GFU Certifying Official.
  • After receiving your Certification of Eligibility, send a copy to the Veterans' Certifying Official.

    If benefits were received at a different institution prior to admission at George Fox University:

  • Fill out a 22-1995 Change of Place of Training Form/from VA website. Send a copy to the Veterans' Certifying Official.

Print and complete the Students Rights and Responsibilities form. This form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Step Three: Contact Veterans Certifying Official, Sherri Moore, for benefit consultations
Step Four: Apply for Financial Aid
Step Five: Meet with your Enrollment Counselor within your major or program of study.

Dual Enrollments

  • Using benefits to cover courses taken simultaneously at other institutions:
  • If you are receiving benefits through GFU, we are your parent school. The other institution needs approval from the Veterans' Certifying Official at GFU allowing them to certify your courses at their institution.
  • Contact your GFU Enrollment Counselor to get approval for the courses you plan to take in the following term.
  • Your Enrollment Counselor can e-mail his or her approval to the Veterans' Certifying Official.
  • The email must include a statement that courses being taken apply to a degree program offered at GFU. The statement must include the course number and name of the class.
  • The Veterans' Certifying Official will send a "Parent School" Letter of approval to your other institution.
  • The other institution will then be able to certify you to the VA for the specified courses.
  • The Veterans' Certifying Official will then issue enrollment certification documents to the VA Regional office in order to monitor the student's satisfactory academic progress.
Step Six:  Complete the Veterans Schedule Certification Form each semester to utilize your VA Education Benefits

Additional Important Information

  • You may receive retroactive benefits for up to one year before the date you submitted your application. (Not applicable for all chapters)
  • Only courses required for the degree program you are admitted to are eligible for VA benefits. If you change degree programs you must notify the registrar's office and the Veteran's Administration by completing VONAPP form 1995.
  • Students are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress to be eligible for VA benefits. Please see the Policies section for a description of this academic policy.
