Chapel Speakers
We are looking forward to having the following speakers with us for spring 2013 at George Fox.
University chapel is open to the public, so anyone is welcome to join us. Chapel services are held Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10:40 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium the first 14 weeks of the 15-week semester.

Robin Baker, University President
Speaking date: 1/14
Robin E. Baker, a historian and experienced university administrator, is the 12th president of George Fox University. Baker completed a doctorate in history with honors at Texas A&M University in 1989. He was named outstanding graduating student at Hardin-Simmons University, where he earned his master's degree in history in 1982. He earned his undergraduate degree with high honors from Grand Canyon University in 1980.
In addition to his work in political history, Baker speaks frequently on the integration of faith and learning in the Christian university and he has a special interest in the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.
Sarah Baldwin, University Pastor
Speaking dates: 1/16, 1/28, 2/13, 2/25 and 4/1
Sarah Thomas Baldwin is in her seventh year as university pastor and dean of spiritual life at George Fox. Over the past 18 years, Sarah has served four different institutions of Christian higher education in a variety of leadership and teaching roles. Sarah is completing a doctorate in ministry at George Fox Evangelical Seminary in leadership and the emerging culture. She is passionate about her work with the international urban poor as the U.S. chair of Word Made Flesh.

Graham Cooke, Author and Speaker
Speaking date: 1/30
Graham Cooke is a popular conference speaker and is well known for his training programs on the prophetic, spiritual warfare and intimacy with God, leadership and spirituality. He functions as a consultant. Graham has written 16 books and co-authored two more.
A strong part of Graham’s ministry is in producing finances and resources to help the poor, supporting many projects around the world. He also financially supports and helps to underwrite church planting, leadership development, evangelism, and health and rescue projects in the third world. He also has a particular interest in helping to stop the human trafficking/sex slave industry.
Rusty St. Cyr, Associate Pastor of
Ministry and Service
Speaking dates: 2/4, 3/4, and 4/8
Rusty St. Cyr serves as the director for spiritual formation at George Fox University. He is a grateful student of 22 years to Christ, a lucky husband of 12 years to Stephanie, a stoked dad to 2 year-old Ella Sophia and newly born Matea Frances, and owner of a Jack Russell Terrorist named "Woody" (a.k.a. "El Capitan").
After studying for a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies in Missouri, a master’s in teaching in California, and beginning seminary in Austin, Texas, Rusty continues his seminary studies at George Fox University in spiritual formation and Christian earth keeping.
Rusty came to the spiritual life team at Fox in 2009 after 10 years of student ministry in Springfield, Mo., Inverness, Scotland, Santa Cruz, Calif., as well as serving as director for spiritual formation at Bethany University near Santa Cruz, Calif. Along with all of this, Rusty is also thankful to experience playing all kinds of drums to music, for stand-up paddling and surfing waves, for opportunities to love and learn from people of other cultures, for reconciliation, for the Shalom-growing principle that we are blessed in order TO BE a blessing, and, of course, for Spinach smoothies.
Rev. Sunder Krishnan
Speaking dates: 2/5-6
Rev. Sunder Krishnan was born into an orthodox Hindu family in India and grew up in the capital city of New Delhi. He received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1969 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior through the ministry of Youth For Christ in the city of New Delhi during his first year of undergraduate studies.
In October 1980, Sunder resigned his position with Atomic Energy of Canada and joined the pastoral staff of Rexdale Alliance Church as the associate pastor. When the senior pastor retired, Rev. Krishnan accepted that position on Jan. 1, 1997, and has served in that capacity to date. In April 2000, he was given an honorary doctorate from the Canadian Bible College and Theological Seminary. In 1971, he and Shyamala were married. They have two married children, Vijay and Sheila, and six grandchildren: Rebecca, Matthew, Benjamin, Noah, Joel and Gideon.
Jamie Johnson, Associate Pastor of
Christian Leadership
Speaking dates: 2/11, 3/11, and 4/15
Jamie Johnson is the Associate Pastor of Christian Leadership, Director of the Friends Leadership Program and an adjunct Professor of Religious Studies. A George Fox graduate, he has studied Church History (MA) and Christian Education (PhD) and hungers to learn more about what it means for individuals and communities to follow Jesus in every aspect of life.
He is married to Erin, social worker extraordinaire, and together they spend much of their energy chasing around their three children - and loving it! In his spare time, Jamie enjoys leading worship, running, reading, and watching, coaching and playing sports.

Steve Sherwood, Assistant Professor for Youth Evangelism and Discipleship
Speaking dates: 2/18, 3/18, and 4/22
Steve Sherwood serves as the director of George Fox’s partnership with Young Life. He has spent more than 20 years on Young Life staff and joined the George Fox faculty in 2004. He has a masters in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and completed a doctorate of ministry in emerging leadership from George Fox Evangelical Seminary in the fall of 2008. He speaks regularly to both adult and student groups at Young Life, church and ministry-related conferences.
Steve’s wife, Elizabeth, directs a local ministry for teen parents and is on the pastoral staff of Newberg Friends Church. She too has a master’s degree from Fuller. They have two elementary-aged daughters.
Mark McMinn, Professor of Psychology
Speaking date: 2/20
Mark McMinn received his undergraduate degree from Lewis & Clark College and a PhD in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University. He taught at George Fox from 1984 to 1993 before leaving to help start the PsyD program at Wheaton College, where he later assumed an endowed chair position.
He has been a licensed psychologist since 1985 and board certified (ABPP) since 1995. He especially enjoys working with clergy. Mark is a past president of APA’s Division 36 (Psychology of Religion) and a respected author. His hobbies include tending honeybees, growing a small organic apple orchard, home construction, computer programming and sports. During his free time he also enjoys reading, landscaping and playing basketball.
Rachel Held Evans, Author and Blogger
Speaking date: 3/13
Rachel Held Evans is an award-winning author and popular blogger from Dayton, Tenn. – home of the famous Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925. Rachel’s first book, Evolving in Monkey Town (Zondervan, 2010), explores the relationship between faith and doubt and recounts the challenges of asking tough questions about Christianity in the context of the Bible Belt.
Her second book, A Year of Biblical Womanhood, documents a yearlong experiment in which Rachel attempted to follow all of the Bible’s instructions for women as literally as possible. That book releases Oct. 30, 2012.
In addition to her writing, Rachel has maintained a busy speaking schedule across the country for retreats, conferences, universities and churches. Rachel is a skeptic, a creative, and a follower of Jesus. She is a lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide fan, and happily married to her husband Dan.
Rev. Samuel Rodriguez

CNN named Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, “The leader of the Hispanic Evangelical movement.” The Wall Street Journal identified him as one of America’s seven most influential Hispanic leaders, and the only religious leader on the list. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Chronicle described Samuel as one of the six leaders of the New Evangelical Leadership. Charisma magazine identifies Rev. Rodriguez as America’s most influential spirit-filled Christian leader in the political sphere.
Rodriguez earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lehigh University. Currently, he is pursuing a doctoral degree in organizational management and behavior. He has been an Assemblies of God ordained minister since the age of 23. Rodriguez also serves as senior pastor of New Season Christian Worship Center in Sacramento, Calif., where he resides with his wife of 22 years, Eva, and their three children.
Chris Seay
Speaking date: 4/10
In 1995, at the age of 23, Chris Seay left his ministry as pastor of a rural church in Central Texas to start a church that could reach his peers. His studies at Baylor University and the friends nurtured there, including worship leader David Crowder, became the core group of this new church: University Baptist Church.
In 1999, Chris and his wife Lisa moved to Houston's Montrose district with brother Robbie Seay to start a missional church in the most challenging neighborhood in the city. Ecclesia is a unique community that is living out the gospel in compelling ways, not only in Houston but also across the globe.
Chris' vision for a new translation of the Bible goes back 20 years to his early attempts to teach the Bible in the narrative as the story of God. As president of Ecclesia Bible Society, his vision has manifested into The Voice.
