Purpose and Benefit

The Practice of Formative Friendship through Spiritual Formation Groups

At the core of an abiding relationship with Jesus comes a way of friendship that is a spiritual practice and discipline. Our true hope in offering opportunities for small groups is to make our way into the kind of friendships that become a demonstration in love. Ultimately, God desires to see us reach out in friendship to those who need a friend. We also hope that we find commonality in our stories and we find that, deep down, all of us long to belong and be loved.

Spiritual Formation Credit

Each Spiritual Life Assistant (SLA) can earn up to 9 credits (1/2 credit per training session and 1/2 per group meeting)
The SLA will keep track of attendance, each attendance is worth 1/2 credit

Want to lead a group?

There are two ways to be a small group leader ...

  1. Gather a group of your friends together (three or more) and sign up by contacting Rusty St. Cyr at rstcyr@georgefox.edu.

A group can have two leaders, but both must attend the training.*

  2. Become a SLA for your living area- talk with your RA to find out more information.

  3. * Leaders must attend training, which starts the beginning of the semester; we will meet for eight consecutive Fridays at that time and location.)
