SPIRITUAL FORMATION OPPORTUNITY:

The Graphic Design Internship is not only an opportunity to serve the spiritual life of the George Fox University community but it is also an internship in worship theology, community and personal spiritual formation, and spiritual mentorship. The Graphic Design Intern would be part of the Spiritual Life student assistant staff. This internship/job is for students who would like to grow professionally as well as be encouraged in their spiritual walk. They will be supervised directly by the Spiritual Life Coordinator and work on design projects associated with spiritual life events.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Graphic Designer helps us professionally, creatively and successfully promote our weekly chapel services and all spiritual life special events. This may qualify as a graphic design internship. The Graphic Designer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and oversee all chapel and spiritual life programming promotional material
  • Work with printers to get all promotional material copied
  • Weekly make slides about chapel to go up on the lobby flat screens and in chapel
  • Have the graphic software on your computer or access to computers that do
  • Keep a portfolio of all promotional material used in the spiritual life office
  • Meet with supervisor once a week
  • Keep a job log
  • Work in the Spiritual Life office 2 hours a week (completing graphic design assignments and admin tasks)
  • Attend most chapel services, including some evening chapel events
  • Other tasks assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Excitement about the GFU spiritual life program
  2. Ability to manage details and organize jobs
  3. Punctuality in completing design jobs
  4. Ability to creatively communicate spiritual life events
  5. Access to design software and personal computer
  6. Some formal training in design development and setting files up for print
  7. A team player willing to listen and give impute
  8. Responsible and dependable in carrying out designated tasks

REQUIRED DATES:

  • The Chapel Planning Team orientation begins – Wednesday, August 27, 2013
  • Participate in the SpiL Floatabout, weekend retreat – September 6-8, 2013
  • Attend the ALL Spiritual Life retreat – January 18-20, 2013
  • Winter Serve/SpiL Discipleship Retreat – January 1-4, 2014

TIME COMMITMENT:

Office Planning and work: 3 hour/week
Outside of office weekly design jobs: 4 hours/week
TOTAL: 7 hours/week

STIPEND: Full academic year: $800 (if requested, this can be paid on a monthly basis like a normal paycheck). This can also be set-up as an art internship for credit if needed.
