La Zona Service Program

La Zona Service Program

The mission of La Zona is for George Fox University students to greatly enhance and empower the Newberg community with valuable educational skills. The people they serve include, but are not limited to, the Latino community. This outreach program seeks to fulfill the its mission of service to assist and celebrate God's diverse Kingdom.

La Zona is a service component of Multicultural Services at George Fox University partnered with the Newberg Public Library that seeks to bridge the gap between the George Fox community and the Hispanic community of Newberg. The La Zona program places Fox student volunteers in a number or different service opportunities as the needs arise such as:

  • Tutoring students with homework
  • Helping adults learn English
  • Reading at the library
  • Help in classrooms
  • Service in the Migrant Affairs Dept. of Newberg
  • Citizenship classes at the library
  • Help in public school classrooms with primarily, but not limited to, Hispanic students.
