This page could be the "end all" of keeping up in a converstation, or chapel for that matter, while you embark in new territory at Fox. It includes handy references that we insist you try to think about. We don't want you go around saying, "So I went to the ARC to have a DTR with my RAR... it rocked my trash!" Phrases like that may have grave consequences... Below are some key abbreviations and definitions. Acronyms are common at George Fox. Without a basic knowledge of the acronyms used here, you may find yourself lost in a conversation during your first semester. The instant you set foot on campus, a whole new vocabulary you did not know existed will flood your ear canals. In order to become an effective communicator here at George Fox, you must understand some of the beloved jargon we have come to embrace. |

ARC (Academic Resource Center) Remember how dumb you felt when your high school English teacher recommended you seek the help of upperclassmen in refining your paper-writing skills? I know I did. In college, it's the cool thing to do.This window-lit room on the third floor of the Stevens Center is a great place to get extra help, guidance, tips, and anything else you may need for all essays, resumes, and projects that your professors can't wait to get you started on. |

| ASC (Associated Student Community) Much like student council in high school, this group of awesome individuals is the voice of the students on campus. They sponsor activities on campus throughout the year while also seeking to adapt campus policy according to students' needs.Take the time to meet them when you visit. They are excited to be our student representatives and appreciate getting to know the people they represent. |

QUAD (Quiet, Ubiquitous, and Despondent) Okay, so I fabricated that acronym. I just wanted to use some big words. Besides, when the weather is nice, the quad is anything but quiet and despondent. It is the area of grass, trees, and sidewalks that surrounds the clock tower at the center of campus and is surrounded by most of the prominent academic buildings. Students enjoy this as a place of refuge in between classes to study, relax, or get a game of Frisbee going. |
|
| SUB (Student Union Building) This is arguably the heart of campus. It's a single building on the quad that houses the Bruin Den, Bon Appétit(the Bon), the campus store, and the Foxhole. The SUB is available to students 24/7 and serves as an ideal location for coffee, homework, or just hanging out. |

DTR (Defining the Relationship) This is perhaps the most notorious and overused term at Fox. A DTR happens when two individuals come to a point in their relationship where certain parameters must be understood by both sides in the interest of determining the future of the relationship. Several DTR "spots" around campus have come to be well known.Take my advice:When it comes time for you to have your first DTR, be creative and stay away from coffee shops or benches by the creek. |
|
| "RAR!!!" (Resident Asst's Roommate) It sounds like what you would hear from a lion. But there's no need to fret. The RAR is anything but frightening. Say your RA is out saving the world from evil, and you need advice. Look no further than his/her trusty sidekick. |

Co-Ed (Coffin-Edwards) Coffin (formerly University Hall) is located next to the new LeShana Apartments and quick access to Wheeler Gym. Ed is located right behind the Bon/SUB. They may seem to be far away from each other, but their bond will show to be quite tight throughout the year. |
