First, you'll need to decide a couple things: whom you want to live with and where you want to live. The two are related because you'll choose your preferences for where you want to live based on the number of people in your group. Here are the options that you'll have to choose from:
2 people: Lewis*, Woolman*, or any residence hall
4 people: Beebe, Carey, Lewis, Weesner Village, Willcuts, Winters, Woolman or any residence hall
6 people: Le Shana or any residence hall
One thing that you'll need to consider is that residence hall rooms will be part of selection--both as an option, or in the event that you sign up for a four or six person room and don't get in one. Then your group will be placed together in two or three residence hall rooms. So you should figure out how your group would arrange itself into groups of two.
*Due to limited availability and high demand, 2-person apartments will only be available to groups of seniors.
If you don't have a group to sign up with, there are a couple of options for you.
We'll have a list in the Student Life Office of students who contact us that they need roommates and are open to connecting with new folks. Feel free to come up to the office to leave your name with us, or to see if there are others whom you'd be open to living with.
You can post an ad in the "Wanted" folder in BruinBoards indicating that you need a roommate.
There are a couple of other things to consider early on. If you know of a transfer that you would like to have with your group, that is fine. Your group will not be penalized for having an odd number. You'll have an option on the selection form to indicate that you'd like a transfer to live with you. Also, if you have an odd number in your group and don't have a specific transfer in mind, the empty spot will be designated for a transfer or international student.
When the form is online (the week before Spring Break), then you will indicate who you want to live with, how your group would be arranged if you were to be placed in residence hall rooms, and rank your area preferences.
If you are going to be a senior and plan to live off-campus, you will be given the option to choose off-campus housing while the form is up.
Before Spring Break, be sure that you have registered for Fall 2008 classes so that you will be placed and your credits will count for your group.
We will collect all the information and make placements during spring break. The process for making placements follows:
Groups will be ranked from highest to lowest number of average credits (total credits of registered students / total number of students).
Starting with the group with the highest credits, groups will be placed in the first housing area that is available on their list.
Once everyone has been placed, students will be notified of their housing assignment.
Example #1:
Four students sign up together and wish to live in an apartment. When their group comes up for placement, Winters, their top choice is taken. There is still a vacancy in Woolman, their second choice. The group receives a Woolman apartment for their placement.
Example #2:
Six students sign up together and wish to live in Le Shana. When their group comes up for placement, Le Shana is full. The group indicates Coffin as their second choice. The group is placed in three adjacent rooms in Coffin.
