Elderhostel is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing extraordinary learning adventures for people 55 and over. From New Hampshire to New Zealand, South Africa to South Dakota, Elderhostel offers you a world of educational opportunities — at exceptional values. Unlike tourist travel, or commercial tours, Elderhostel programs are all-inclusive. There are no hidden expenses. What about Tilikum?
For more than 20 years, Tilikum has partnered with the Elderhostel organization to offer unique educational programs in a retreat setting. We believe you will find Tilikum to be a warm, friendly environment, with an interesting mix of the down-home feel and academic challenge you seek. Most programs combine class lectures with multiple field trips and experiential learning opportunities.

Accommodations
Meeting, dining, and sleeping rooms are centrally located in our inviting and comfortable two-story country retreat center. Private baths are available. Be prepared to experience homestyle meals with a touch of culinary flair.

The Spruce Goose and Other Flying Machines #9661

For the past 100 years, human flight has fascinated us. No matter what your level of interest is, the history of aviation will come alive as you experience the things legends are made of. Step inside the actual HK-1 Flying Boat, known as the Spruce Goose, of Howard Hughes fame. Daily field trips include visits to the oldest operating airfield in the U.S., a WWII blimp hanger housing an entire air museum, a B-17 Bomber with a distinctive family history, and up-close and personal encounters with countless aircraft from the first to the fastest. Each stop will highlight a portion of this unique history. Discussions will give you a look into the past, present, and future of aviation. Share your stories and experiences with others.

Bridges and Beacons of Northwest Oregon #10004

Oregon has more covered bridges than any state west of the Mississippi; many are still in use today. We'll visit numerous fine bridges on field trips through the beautiful Northwest countryside to learn their history and unique architectural style. At the Oregon Coast, enjoy guided visits at Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport; discover why these beacons are such a large part of Oregon's past and present. Travel to Astoria and explore the Columbia River Maritime Museum's interactive exhibits, including the Columbia Lightship. Enjoy the beautiful vista at Cannon Beach and observe Tillamook Head Lighthouse. Get up close to Portland's many drawbridges over the Willamette River on a narrated jet boat ride through the heart of the city.

This program includes an overnight trip to the beautiful Oregon Coast. Coast accommodations are in comfortable hotels with beach access. Short walks at the covered bridge locations; climbing lighthouse stairs optional.

Gardens, Orchards & Vineyards of the Willamette Valley #12739

Be captivated as you study and explore the vineyards, orchards and gardens of the Willamette Valley. Walk alongside farmers and viticulturists as they detail what it takes to maintain and grow in this region. Sample their world-renowned products including fresh hazelnuts and pinot noir wines. Studies of varied historic and modern gardens (both public and private) offer insight and perspectives applicable to the home garden. A master gardener/nurseryman will lead field trips including the budding world class Oregon Garden, Portland's Classical Japanese, Chinese, and Rose Gardens, private gardens and local farms.

Relive the incredible journey of the Oregon Trail and experience firsthand the challenges faced by early pioneers and explorers on their 2,000-mile trek to "Oregon Country". On an overnight field trip with your instructor to the Columbia Gorge and Multnomah Falls, learn how some pioneers traveled down-river and enjoy the river from the deck of a sternwheeler. Touch old rope scars and wagon ruts on infamous Laurel Hill near Mt. Hood and ride the chairlift at Timberline Lodge. Participate in hands-on activities at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center and Fort Vancouver National Historic Park. Activities include traditional fishing, leather crafts, and time in our one-room schoolhouse. You'll never think of Oregon Trail pioneers the same way again!

Overnight field trip to Hood River in the Columbia Gorge; hotel accommodations. Program is designed for hostelers and their grandchildren ages 8-12. No more than one child per grandparent - triple or quad occupancy upon request. Hostelers must actively supervise the grandchildren.

Take to the air and experience the magic of flight! Step inside the infamous Spruce Goose, brainchild of Howard Hughes, whose wingspan makes it the largest plane ever built. Learn the principles of aviation through hands-on activities, flight simulators, and model building. Uncover the secrets of flight as you observe Oregon's coastal and inland birds as they soar and swoop. Visit the oldest operating airfield in the U.S. as well as a WWII blimp hanger housing an entire fleet of historic airplanes. Get up close to more than 75 different planes, blimps and helicopters while learning the fascinating stories behind their journeys. Land this flying program sitting side by side your grandchild in a piloted glider ride over beautiful Willamette Valley.

Program is designed for hostelers and their grandchildren ages 8-12. No more than one child per grandparent - triple or quad occupancy upon request. Hostelers must actively supervise the grandchildren.

Take an intriguing historical look at the taming of the magnificent Columbia River. From an overnight trip to the spectacular Columbia Gorge, to a day spent where the river meets the Pacific, learn how pioneers and sailors survived encounters with the mighty force that is the Columbia River.

This program includes an overnight field trip to Hood River in the Columbia Gorge. Hood River accommodations in comfortable hotel. Short walks each day at various field trip destinations.
