HEAD LIFEGUARD
Position Description
| Reports To: | Program Director and Waterfront Manager |
| Supervises Directly: | Lifeguard and Waterfront Program Staff |
| Supervises Through Program Staff: | All day campers, Quest campers, and high adventure campers |
| Purpose For The Position: | To structure, facilitate and maintain a safe and professional waterfront environment. |
Essential Responsibilities:
Summer Camp Preparation
- Review and revise staff expectations, procedures, and policies
- Prepare and plan training, in service and evaluation process/procedures
- Review and gather proper and good waterfront equipment
Training and In-Service
- Assist the Waterfront Manager in training new lifeguard staff
- Lead in-service training sessions every other week during summer programs
- Complete staff/guard waterfront evaluations two times during summer schedule
- Organize, implement and debrief video evaluation process
- Address staff policy and procedure inconsistencies
- Supervise guards and staff during each waterfront session
- Be consistent and clear with expectations
- Maintain a professional, appropriate appearance and attire
- Check all waterfront equipment, boats, and lake for hazards each day
- Give orientation to campers and counselors each Monday
- Administer swimming tests and manage buddy checks and guard rotation
- Support staff and guards in maintaining control of their specific areas
- Assume control of the situation in case of an emergency situation
- Be available to listen to any problems, questions, or concerns
- Make sure the swimming areas are clear, the buddy board is empty and all the boats are in before dismissing each swim session
- Attitude of service and commitment to ministry
- Be in good physical condition, including ability to lift 50 pounds
- Have at least one year lifeguard experience (preferably at a lake setting)
- Have quick and clear reasoning skills while maintaining a calm, level perspective
- Dependable and consistent work ethic
