Career Corner

Internship Success Stories
Since 2004 I have written several Career Corner articles about the advantages our students receive while doing an internship. I've noted that they not only gain valuable real-world experience, but they also get an inside glimpse of a company, industry, or specific occupation. They gain key skills and develop relationships with future reference writers and potential employers. Ideally, our students will do several internships during their years at George Fox University, and through these experiences they can explore different career options. In this Career Corner I will highlight internship success stories written by two George Fox students. More...

View Perspectives as a Web page October 2006
From the Executive Director
When I think back on the years I spent raising my children, I realize that one of my primary jobs as a parent has been to give my kids perspective. Think of the many times you've provided perspective for your children regarding their relationships, their rash decisions, their successes and failures. As parents, we have spent a great deal of time putting our children's lives into a larger context - a perspective bigger than that from which they generally operate. More...
From the Campus Pastor
Sunday dinner is kind of a big deal at my house when I'm at my parents' home with my brothers. Every Sunday after church, my family morphs into warp speed. My mom straps on an apron and mixes potatoes with a beater. I set the table with our rose-pink flowered china. My dad complains because my youngest brother isn't doing anything and is on the couch reading a magazine. The grandbaby cries because lunch is later than she's used to, and the older grandkids steal crescent-shaped yeast rolls from where they are cooling on the counter. More...
Suggestions for Parent Advocacy
As parents we start advocating for our children from their birth. We interact with their teachers, volunteer at their schools and help with their homework. When they are at college things seem to change.
How can parents keep advocating for their children in college? As a university we want to partner with parents and as an administrator I appreciate it when parents advocate for their children. Over the years I have encountered both good and ineffective forms of parent advocacy. I have a few suggestions that will increase your effectiveness as an advocate for your student. More...

Life@Fox
Each month, the Student Life office develops its campus programming around a particular topic or theme germane to the interests and needs of George Fox students. The series itself is called LIFE@Fox and the intention is to build a campus conversation around the given topic or theme by incorporating it into chapel, residence life, small groups, and other venues. The October theme is "view of self and others" which will deal with issues related to sexuality, authentic beauty, healthy lifestyle, depression, self esteem, and coping with fear from a Christ-centered frame of reference. As a part of October's activities, we are planning "It's Your Life Week" for October 23-27 which will include chapels and evening sessions Monday - Thursday. Please join us in prayer about these important campus conversations!
