As you must know by now, the accident claimed the life of Cara Moran, a senior history major who would have graduated this month. Three other senior women were severely injured and hospitalized. But to get to "the heart of the matter," what will your student(s) find when they return home for the Christmas holiday break? As parents, the status of our hearts goes a long way to determining how a brief two to three weeks will play out in our homes, our lives, and the lives of our student(s). Will they enjoy their time, longing to return, or will they long for the break to be over so they can return to their friends? More... Career Corner A Day in the Life of the Your Student's Career Services Director I came in this morning contemplating yesterday's successful Professional Preview Day. We had great weather and minimal traffic for our trip into Portland. We transported 37 students to the Portland Center to meet with several professionals (alumni and parents) for the better part of the day at their places of employment. Some of the job titles included distribution manager, event coordinator, therapist, social studies teacher and department head, general manager, trade marketing manager, pastor, internal business consultant, RN and clinical manager, software integration engineer, senior tax accountant, elementary school counselor, IT associate, director of administration, founder/director, engineering information manager, and licensed professional counselor. Most of the students reported learning new things from this exposure and made some great networking connections. More... December Graduation Information Is your student graduating on December 15, 2007? Families of graduates are invited to a special luncheon prior to the commencement ceremony in honor of our graduates. Parents of George Fox University students are invited to gather on Saturday, March 15, 2008, either on the Newberg campus or at regional sites to pray for their students and the university. Parents who live in the Portland Metro area can attend a worship and prayer time on the Newberg campus from 9 a.m. - Noon in Kerschner Lecture Hall (Hoover 105). Parents who don't live locally may be able to lead or participate in a prayer gathering in the home of a George Fox parent. Mom's In Touch - College-style Many George Fox University Moms have continued to gather in their original Moms In Touch prayer groups to pray for their college students. Four of those Moms invite you to join them for prayer with their groups if that is of interest to you. Moms In Touch State Coordinator list Kaleo conference - for people who engage with youth George Fox University's fourth annual conference for people who minister to youth will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008. Wes Davis, pastor at NewLife Church in Kitsap, Washington, will be talking about Courageous Leadership. Drawing from the lives of Joseph and Daniel, Wes will share how we can equip youth to do more than spiritually survive. He will also share how God redeems our hurts to bring healing to others, including the young people we lead. Information will be available online beginning November 15 at kaleo.georgefox.edu.
