Greetings from the Executive Director…
As I was searching for the right message for this final e-newsletter of the year, I got to thinking about the two great articles in this April issue. First, Parent Council member Celia Howen wrote about how students determine their vocation and calling. Secondly, our alumni director, Robby Larson, wrote about some of the fascinating things our young alumni are doing out in the world. These two articles inspired me to write about the importance of young adults doing “cool stuff.” You probably think I’m off my rocker advocating for your student to do “cool stuff,” but hear me out. I’ve been around George Fox University long enough to observe that this pastime can often lead a young person right into his or her vocation and calling! More...

The career planning process can be confusing and overwhelming. I liken it to trying to solve a complicated jigsaw puzzle with lots of little pieces. I know when I first open the box of a puzzle I am excited to see the complete picture unfold as I diligently figure out how to put the pieces together. It does not take long, however, for me to feel overwhelmed as I stare at so many different pieces laying all over the table. They all begin to look the same and I feel stymied. So I begin with what I know I can do. I know that I can find the four corner pieces, and so that is where I start. Those pieces will be the foundation on which I will build my picture; they are the anchors of the complete picture. More...
Telling Their Stories
By Robby Larson, Alumni Director
One of the great things about my role as the Director of Alumni Relations is that I am paid to connect with our alumni and to hear about the amazing things that they do once they graduate from George Fox. What a great task this is, and what a blessing it is to share these stories with other alumni, current students, employees, and parents. Going back through our history, it seems that we’ve always had these great stories to tell. But in the past year, there have been several that really stood out to me. Here are a couple stories that I think you’ll find inspiring. More...

From Student Financial Services
Student Financial Services has been hard at work preparing aid packages for the 2010-2011 academic year. To date we’ve sent out over a thousand new student award offers.
If after filing the FAFSA, your student is selected for verification, our office will need to complete this process prior to preparing the aid package for next year. If this is the case, the verification worksheet can be found on our website at: www.georgefox.edu/offices/stu_fin_srv.
Look in online forms. With this worksheet, we will need a signed copy of both parent and student 2009 Federal 1040.
Also on our website we have a list of outside scholarships that we are aware of. Stop by and see if your students might be eligible for one or more of them.
Students not planning on returning next year, should come to our office to take care of exit loan counseling and matters associated with their student account.

The public is cordially invited to attend George Fox University’s annual Spring concert, Friday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium featuring music by the University’s nationally recognized Symphonic Band and Concert Choir. The choir just recently returned from a highly successful performance at the Regional American Choral Director's Association Conference. They were one of five University choirs chosen from the Northwest. Other choirs selected were from the University of Washington, University of Oregon, Central Washington University and Western Washington University. A special feature of this concert will be the presentation of Vivaldi's "Gloria" sung. by the University's Concert Choir, the Newberg United Methodist Church choir and students and faculty from the George Fox University community. Concert Choir will also be singing "God Be With Us" , a selection they performed at the conference, written by the contemporary composer, Steven Paulus.
Are you WILLing to Consider GFU?
One of George Fox University’s six strategic objectives is to build the endowment fund. Students must have increasing access to financial assistance if a George Fox education is to remain within reach.
One of the best and easiest ways to help George Fox build its endowment fund is to include the university as a beneficiary in your estate plan. In 1902, Henry Mills made the first gift to the university endowment by deeding his $1,200 home to the school as part of his estate plan.
Would you be WILLing to consider GFU in this way too?
Maybe you could use some assistance with estate planning—it can be a complicated task. George Fox University offers comprehensive resource materials and expert, confidential planning assistance free for the asking. Call Gene Christian at (503) 936-5350 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to know more.
