The Martha perfect Christmas takes on a Whole New Mary
By Nancy Almquist - Director of Parent Relations

I am a woman about tradition.  I love traditions.  I come by it honestly – with a southern family – tradition runs deep through my veins.  At Christmas time – I can get a little out of control with my traditions and create expectations of myself that are completely unnecessary.  At least, that's what I learned at Thanksgiving. SAVE THE DATE
University Day of Prayer, March 10, 2012
By Nanette LoVerde - Parent Council Member

For several years, George Fox has hosted a Parents Day of Prayer. It is a day to focus on communication with our wonderful maker, and to remember the gift of talking with Him and hearing His still small voice. I have had the great privilege of being a part of this day for the past seven years, and every year it has blessed me more than I can even say. Nothing brings me more gratification than knowing that I am covering my children, their surroundings and influencing environments in prayer. More...

Your Kids and Money
By Ryan Halley - GFU Associate Professor of Finance

Do your children want to know more about money? Probably. According to a 2008 study by Sallie Mae[1], 84 percent of all undergraduates polled indicated that they needed more education on money management topics. In a 2010 study sponsored by Capital One[2], 53 percent of the teen respondents said they want to learn more about money. These teens reported that they would rather learn about money management from their parents than any other source (including a college course!). Sadly, only 27 percent of the teens indicated that their parents discuss money topics with them regularly. [1] Sallie Mae. (April 13, 2009). "Study finds rising number of college students using credit cards for tuition." More...

Resumes that Persuade
By Bonnie Jerke - Director of Career Services

A few facts to consider about resumes ...

-Resumes are no longer only historical in content but are documents demonstrating potential.
-Resume writing requires a new mind-set of selling the facts vs. telling the facts.
-Resumes no longer dwell only on the job candidate, but incorporate the employer's perspective.
-Resumes must convince the employer you are the one for the job in order to get an interview.
-Resumes are targeted now and tailored to each employer's position and organization.
