Football Update

It’s still two years before we kick off our first football season in more than 40 years, but our planning and fundraising efforts are going strong.

Recently, we announced plans to build Stoffer Family Stadium and the Duke Athletic Center near the heart of campus on the current track. In addition to football, the facility will be home to the men’s and women’s track and field teams and feature a new resurfaced track. The covered stadium also will be the site of future graduation ceremonies, concerts and local and regional sporting events.

The three-story Duke Athletic Center, located on the back side of Stoffer Family Stadium, will include everything from coaches’ offices and locker rooms to a new weight room and training room. The center also will include much-needed classrooms, a trophy room, concessions, restrooms, a conference room and a press box.

We are currently in the process of interviewing head coaching candidates, with a decision expected in the spring.

Finally, more than $4.6 million of the $7.2 million “Kickoff Campaign” funds necessary to construct the new facilities have been raised. You can get involved by purchasing season tickets for the inaugural 2013 campaign; buying “Legacy Lockers” or an engraved brick; joining the Bruin Backer Club; or becoming a stadium and/or game-day sponsor.
