Thoughts by GF Students on a Liberal Arts Education:

#1 "In most cases, simply the fact that you as a student will have completed a four-year college and have earned your Liberal Arts degree puts you ahead of a lot of people in the job industry. Even if you don't end up in a field that directly pertains to the major you went into, the skills and experiences you gained along the way will become of use to you when you're working in the job market." -Amy

#2 "I like the idea that it is your job to figure out what to do, not an employer's job. Take some responsibility! I also liked figuring out some of my talents on the skills checklist. These are good terms to add to a resume. I thought it was funny the spin the author used on one student's Pizza Delivery Job. He managed t make it sound very professional. My very favorite line was, "Finding the right career opportunities becomes easier when you view this process as an exciting adventure and realize you can be anything you choose to be." A very optimistic line, but I like it. It reminds me not to get too stressed out and to believe in myself. Very good advice!" -Brett

#3 "Okay, I have such a wide range of interests, I do not know exactly what line of work I am going into. A liberal arts degree gives a lot of options, it shows you are well-rounded, but then again it adds to my confusion. More options, more decisions. It is good to know that what you major in doesn't necessarily mean you are going to work in that field, because I know some of my interests fall beyond my major. Going to a liberal arts school, I don't feel locked into a profession, like I would if I had decided to go to a design school, where you are only developing on one area of your skills. I think with a liberal arts degree there are so many more options open to you and you will have a lot more to offer an employer." -Noelle

#4 "When it comes time for me to embark out into the marketplace and into the realm of professionalism, it is my broad liberal arts education that will place me one step above most of my immediate competition. How is this so? My education here at George Fox University has prepared me to lead in my given vocation and profession. If I put into practice the professionalism and the Christian character that is modeled for me here I will be above the rest because values are core to becoming successful both inside and out of the university and academic environments…Liberal arts education in sum is about creating a vision and a purpose that can be used to serve an organization, a company, and the individual. My education is broadening my perspective of my own global and human understanding and the better that I can grasp these concepts the more prepared I will be to be effective in multiple professions and titles in the field." -Micah
