From the Executive Director
In our April 2 chapel, the student body honored Dave and Melva Brandt for their service to George Fox University over the past nine years. The program was a touching time of memories, photos, jokes, laughter, and tears. It was obvious from the interaction that Dave and Melva love the students, and that they are loved in return.
Some of the reasons for this sentiment were revealed in the students' comments about Dave and Melva. What do students love about Dave? They love his friendliness, humility, transparency, integrity, and his obvious pride in George Fox students. What do students love about Melva? They love the way she supports her husband, her gift for hospitality, and her constant interest in what students are doing and experiencing.
The fact that Dave is a man of integrity and a pursuer of truth has not escaped the students' attention. In fact, I believe Dave's leadership and character shaped George Fox students over the past nine years. Every year George Fox sends out graduates who are skilled, honest, and prepared to live out their faith in their vocation. They are people of integrity, unwilling to compromise from the truth. As I've often heard Dave say, George Fox alumni are lights in a world in desperate need of light.
Under Dave's leadership, enrollment doubled, buildings were built, and new programs began. His influence on our campus changed the university's history. But we must not forget why we're really here. Institutions, buildings, and programs won't last for eternity, but people will. The heritage George Fox students receive - a love for Jesus, love for others, and love for truth - will impact the Lord's kingdom for eternity.
