Executive Director
Greetings From the Executive Director

Have you noticed a change in your student within the past two weeks? The newness of the beginning of school has worn off. All of the start-up activities are over. The work is picking up, the tests are coming at them, and the purpose of school - learning in preparation for life - is sinking in!

My kids - one a senior and one a sophomore at George Fox - came home for dinner over the weekend. They are already exhausted, sleep deprived, and overwhelmed. Granted, this isn't all from studying so hard! It also has to do with playing hard and working hard. I made a vow to pray for them even more, to encourage them regularly, and to coach them to take care of themselves.

Your student may need the same kind of support right now. Let them know you are thinking of them, praying for them, and available to them. Although they may sometimes act like they don't want your input, they love and appreciate your support. This may be a good time to send something special from home, or order a gift package from Bon Appétit. Also remember that an entire network of support for your student exists right here on campus. If issues arise, encourage your son or daughter to seek direction from an R.A., someone in Student Life, a faculty member, or a work supervisor. We are all available to listen and provide feedback, direction, or help.

I would be remiss if I didn't encourage you to spend Family Weekend at George Fox University with your student. What a great time to get to know your son or daughter's friends and favorite professors. For all of the important details, go to www.georgefox.edu/parents/events/family_weekend. I hope to see you there!

Blessings,

Sheri Philips
