Preparing For the Holidays
Fall semester is nearly complete and our kids are ready to come home for some much- needed rest and relaxation (remember those dreaded finals?) The holiday semester break is a great time to reconnect with our GFU students and get the exciting end- of- semester scoop and preview of the upcoming spring semester. It's also a great opportunity to spend quality time with our kids and enjoy holiday- related activities together. By this time, eating at "the Bone" may have become routine and bland, so brush off those delectable home- baked recipes and put out the culinary red carpet!
Although it will be great to have the kids home for the holidays, there will likely be a few adjustments to make. For example, visitations by and to friends will be frequent and occur in a much broader time segment of the day (and night). This is great -- just have lots of junk food and refreshments in stock.
Whatever traditions your family has enjoyed over the years, it's good to continue them after the children are in college. Observing and celebrating family holiday traditions are positive, comforting, a lot of fun, and draw families closer together. The long holiday break also affords quiet time with your student. Be sure to set aside time to talk with them about their life goals, desires, wishes, and fears, perhaps over a nice cup of cocoa or during a leisurely walk together.
This holiday break is also a time to come together and praise God for his many blessings, His provision, his love, and especially for his Son Jesus Christ, the "reason for the season." On behalf of the George Fox University Parents Council, I wish you and your family a joyous and blessed Christmas and bountiful New Year.
In Christ,
Dan Strandy
