Behavioral Health Clinic
The George Fox University Behavioral Health Clinic, with the assistance of Providence Health & Services-Oregon, provides mental health services, including individual and couples therapy, mental health consultation, parenting counseling, and diagnostic assessment to low-income and uninsured county residents.
Doctoral students help to provide these low-cost services and are supervised by a licensed psychologist from the community who is a graduate of the program. This collaboration provides hands-on clinical training opportunities for George Fox PsyD students, while providing a much-needed service to the community.
Patients who meet eligibility are provided with an intake consultation.
A treatment plan is then formulated with the student/clinician and the supervisor, and appropriate evaluation and individual and/or family therapy services are then provided.
The clinic expands the collaboration that already exists between the Graduate Department of Clinical Psychology (PsyD Program) and Providence Newberg Medical Center. One ongoing project of that partnership is the behavioral consultation program, started in 2003. As part of that contract, more than 500 Providence patients have received mental health consultation services from doctoral students and supervising licensed psychologists who are affiliate members of the medical staff. George Fox and Providence also partner with emergency room consultation services and pain management care.
