Makenna Martin

Name: Makenna Martin

High School: Trabuco Hills High School (Mission Viejo, California)

Sport(s): Softball

Position(s): Pitcher and first baseman

Height / Weight: 5-10

High School Highlights:
Earned a varsity letter each season between 2014 and 2017 and was a scholar-athlete in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons; named her team’s “Clutch in the Circle Award” recipient for lowest team ERA in 2015 and was a varsity team captain her junior and senior years

Why I chose George Fox:
I chose George Fox because of its combination of competitive athletics and strong academics. I was immediately impressed by Coach Hollen and the type of program she runs. I also really took a liking to the type of people on campus. It was easy for me to picture myself attending George Fox.

Position(s): Shortstop

High School Highlights:
Earned first-team all-league (Mid-Willamette Valley League) and third-team all-state (Class 5A) honors her senior year, when she batted .507 and posted a .969 fielding percentage; helped team reach Class 5A championship game her final season

Why I chose George Fox:
I want to attend a school where I can follow my faith, pursue a nursing degree, and play the sport I love.

Earned all-league honorable mention honors as a junior; recipient of Los Gatos High School Scholar-Athlete Awards in 2014, 2015 and 2016; also earned school’s Coach’s Award her freshman and sophomore years

Why I chose George Fox:
I chose George Fox because it is a Christian university, it has a good business program, I felt at home on campus, and I really like the softball coach, Jessica Hollen.

Name: Jenifer Truhn

High School Highlights:
Earned Academic Honor Award her junior and senior years while also serving as a team captain this spring; as a junior she batted .625 with a 1.125 slugging percentage and a .686 on-base percentage with four home runs; earned varsity letter as a sophomore at previous school

Why I chose George Fox:
I chose George Fox because of the low student-to-faculty ratio, and the medical school acceptance rate is significantly higher than the national average.

Named an honorable mention all-league first baseman (Class 4A Far West League) in 2016 and a second-team all-league infielder in 2015; honored as her team’s Most Inspirational Player in both 2015 and 2016 and named “Best Defensive Player” in 2016

Why I chose George Fox:
I chose George Fox because there was a difference in the way people treated me from the moment I stepped on campus. It also is a place where I can pursue my career field while growing in my faith. When I went to the Northwest Conference Softball Tournament last spring there was something special about George Fox's quality, character and enthusiasm that I was immediately drawn to.
