Portland Seminary and George Fox University, which it is a part of, has a rich history of Spiritual Formation education and Spiritual Direction training. We have a historical connection to Renovaré founder Richard Foster and house the Richard J. Foster Papers Collection. Portland Seminary is proud to partner with the Renovaré Institute to offer up to 12 units of advanced standing for those who complete the Renovaré Institute program of study in either or local or online formats. Master of Arts in Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Direction Supervision

Our Master of Arts in Spiritual Direction equips our students to serve as spiritual directors, spiritual director supervisors and as leaders of spiritual formation ministries in the church, community, and world. Students can choose to specialize in Spiritual Formation or Spiritual Direction as part of the degree.

Master of Arts in Ministry with a Specialization

Our Master of Arts in Ministry degree program prepares students to serve as leaders in congregations, not-for-profit organizations, missions organizations, church plants, or businesses. Our MAM students value the specialized study options and the integration spiritual formation in their coursework. Students can choose to specialize in Spiritual Formation or Spiritual Direction as part of the degree.

Master of Divinity

The Master of Divinity (MDiv) program prepares students for professional ministry and doctoral programs. Graduates serve as church planters, pastors, chaplains (both military and hospital), and leaders in non-profit organizations. Students can choose to specialize in Spiritual Formation or Spiritual Direction as part of the degree.

The Doctor of Ministry (DMin) is the most advanced professional degree for educated, experienced ministry practitioners. The Seminary's online DMin program develops confident, Christian leaders skilled in creatively addressing ministry challenges.
