Advances

|
The advances constitute a central learning experience in the program in which students are exposed to leaders, scholars, and organizations doing work that ignites their imaginations and resources them to better lead in their own contexts.
Students participate in three advances during the coursework phase of the program:
- Orientation Advance (at the beginning of the program)
- Second Advance (at the end of the first year of coursework)
- Final Advance (at the end of the second year of coursework)
Partnering seminaries and theological schools host the advances at rotating locations in a variety of dynamic global venues. Possible host locations include:
- Europe
- Africa
- Asia
Through a combination of academic seminars and field trips, students interact in-person with scholars from the host location and leaders from churches and faith-based nonprofit organizations engaged in significant ministry, humanitarian, community development, social justice, missional, and church planting efforts. Additionally, students meet with their advisors and research course instructors to discuss the progress in their research.
All active cohorts participate in the advance. Alumni and spouses are welcome as well. Advances last 6 days and run from mid-week to mid-week. The newest cohort arrives at the host location 2 days early for program orientation.
Food and lodging are provided for each of the host locations with incidentals excepted. Wireless internet connectivity will be available when possible. Students, however, are responsible for all air-travel and local transport (car rental, taxi, etc), VISAs, vaccinations, and all expenses associated with spouses for each advance.
