Dwight Friesen

Dwight Friesen

Position: Faculty and Dissertation Advisor; Associate Professor of Practical Theology, at Mars Hill Graduate School in Seattle
Academic and Professional Background: MA, Trinity International University; BA, Ambrose University College; DMin, George Fox University; his dissertation research focused on the development of a relational hermeneutic toward connective church leadership and structure. Having served as a missional pioneer of a Seattle-area simple church for more than eleven years Dwight now trains missional church leaders at Mars Hill Graduate School.  He is an emergent, Anabaptist licensed and ordained by the Christian & Missionary Alliance. He is active locally and internationally with missional and emerging church movements, and have been active in both ecumenical and interfaith dialogue.  He is the author of Thy Kingdom Connected: What the Church Can Learn from Facebook, the Internet and Other Networks, co-author of Routes & Radishes: And Other Things to Talk about at the Evangelical Crossroads, and contributor to The Emergent Manifesto of Hope. Dwight, his wife Lynette and their son Pascal live in Bellevue, Washington.

Dan Lioy

Position: Adjunct Faculty, Expert Advisor; Professor in the School of Continuing Theological Studies at North-West University in South Africa; Senior Research Manager in the Postgraduate School of South African Theological Seminary; and Permanent Faculty at the Institute of Lutheran Theology.

Academic and Professional Background: BSc, University of Southern California; MTh, Dallas Theological Seminary; PhD, North-West University, South Africa; Board Certified Chaplain, Association of Professional Chaplains; Ordained minister of the Evangelical Church Alliance. Prof. Lioy has worked as a freelance editor and writer, a hospital chaplain, and a college administrator. Among his numerous scholarly and church resource publications, he is the author of the David C. Cook Bible Lesson Commentary (NIV and KJV versions, published yearly) and Evolutionary Creation in Biblical and Theological Perspective (Peter Lang, 2011).

Expertise and Research Interests: Intertextuality between the testaments; theological ethics; meaning of life issues; and the relationship between science and religion.

Academic and Professional Background: Teaching pastor at Westwinds Community Church in Jackson, MI, with over 20 yearspastoral ministry specializing in media, theology, and the arts; he has ministered in 32 different countries, pastoring full-time in Canada and the USA; in 2008 he launched the Teaching Atlas project, a publication of theological and practical curriculum spanning nearly fifty books (theology, life-issues, practical advice, biblical exegesis, cultural critique), twenty-topics (sex, money, creation & evolution, prayer, the arts), seven authors (pastors, professors, reporters), six artists (charcoal, sumi, pointillism, vectors), and three filmmakers (storytellers, documentarians), comprising in excess of two million words written and presented non-locally over a five-year period. Proceeds from half the projects have been distributed to charity.
