George Fox University is pleased to offer an educational specialist (EdS) degree to accompany the initial and continuing license preparation programs which prepare you to work with K-12 children, in public and private schools. You will learn how to test and assess students and analyze test results. You will be able to consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals. George Fox University has developed the EdS degree and it has been approved by the Oregon TSPC.
Our programs are rooted in the belief that:
- Students have physiological, psychological, relational, spiritual, and educational needs
- School psychologists should be able to articulate the core dynamics of school psychology in concert with sound theological principles
- School psychologists need to be able to use appropriate individual and group testing and assessment tools in the areas of academic skills, learning aptitude, social skills, personality and emotional development
- School psychologists assist in strengthening the working relationships between educators, parents, and community resources
- School psychologists are aware of prevention services
- School psychologists need to possess the skills for working with a variety of students of different ages, diverse backgrounds, and varied developmental stages, cognitive, emotional and physical abilities
- School psychologists should be able to work with private, institutional, community, ecclesiastical, and cross-cultural issues
- School psychologists should have foundational counseling skills
Licensure
- For those who want to obtain the Initial School Psychology License, the degree is designed to prepare students to sit for the Praxis II: School Psychologist specialization test.
