CANCELED - Special presentation from Deputy CEO Phuong Uyen Tran on “Turning Down a $2.5 billion Buyout Offer from Coca Cola and Becoming a Giant in Your Own Right"

NOTE: Deputy Tran unfortunately canceled this event (both Feb 21 and Feb 22 talks) as she needed to return to Vietnam on very urgent business. We are truly sorry about her cancellation. We hope to see you at our upcoming events; we're working to schedule events for spring and summer, please stay tuned! Thank you.

The George Fox University community is invited to two special lectures by Ms. Phuong Uyen Tran, Deputy CEO of Tan Hiep Phat (THP), and author of Competing with Giants: How One Family-Owned Company Took on the Multinationals and Won.

Ms. Tran will discuss the strategies that she and her entrepreneurial family used to overcome significant hurdles in order to compete against international industry giants. A modern-day David and Goliath story, Ms. Tran will recount how THP – her family’s Vietnamese Green Tea Company –said no to Coca-Cola’s $2.5 billion buyout offer and subsequently flourished into a billion-dollar business. Highlighting the leadership qualities and values her family held onto throughout this journey while evaluating the competitive landscape and weighing Coca-Cola’s buyout offer, she will show how the success of this decision propelled the company to strong global growth, while recognizing and adapting to local consumer preferences.

As Deputy CEO of THP, Ms. Tran leads the company in procurement, marketing, public relations, and programs on social responsibility. She is also an author and a strong supporter of family-owned businesses and encouraging women in entrepreneurship.

The lectures will be held on the Portland and Newberg campuses. Please see below for details.
