This trip will experience the culture, people, history, and environment at the top of the world.  Tibet is an isolated province in western China and at an average of 15,000 feet, this extremely rural and distant country has the highest average elevation of any country in the world. Nepal, best known for the gateway to Mt. Everest is wedged between the towering Himalayas and the steamy Indian planes.  Nepal has a tremendous geographic diversity rising from a low of 194 ft to the tallest point on earth, Mt Everest at 29,029ft.  Both countries (regions) have been involved in political turmoil, Tibet contesting that China includes them as part of China and Nepal with political conflicts over many years that ended (hopefully) with a democratic election in 2008.

The trip will begin in Bejing, China with visits to the Great Wall the Forbidden City Tianamen Square, and the Temple of Heaven and Summer.   From there we willtake the highest train the world to Lhasa, Tibet, the largest city of Tibet.  While in Tibet we will visit sites such as the City Wall in Lhasa, the oldest city wall in all of China, Yamdrok Lake one of the largest sacred lakes in Tibet, and Mt Everest base camp at 17000 feet where we will spend a night in yak wool tents, “tent hotels”.  From here we will travel by bus through the Himilayas on the Tibet-Nepal Friendship Highway to Kathmandu, Nepal, the departure city for the majority of Mt. Everest expeditions.  While in Nepal we will visit Pokhara and Butwal, take a cruise on Phewa Lake, and finally visit Chitwan National Park where we will have the opportunity for a day trek, take an elephant ride, and have the possibility of observing over 68 species of mammals including the Royal Bengal tiger, the One Horned Rhino, and the Gharial Crocodile.

NOTE:   This trip will travel to extreme high altitude (17000 ft) and involve an overnight trek at high altitude.

Additional immunizations will be required.
