Japan - JUNE
Faculty: Adam Haldorson and Saiko Mair
Meeting time: Tuesday 6:30-9:00pm
Student Cost: $2,200
Students will have the unique opportunity to travel Japan with George Fox’s own Native Japanese Athletic Trainer Saiko Mair. We will be interacting with the full cultural and historical identity of Japan; From the bustling ultra-modern city of Tokyo to the historical capital of Kyoto, the traditional castle town Kanazawa, and finally focusing on the World War II era with a visit to Hiroshima. Along the transit between major cities, we will see Mt Fuji from the window of a bullet train, which can run up to 223 miles an hour, and stop to take a “breath” of nature in some smaller, more rural towns, Nagano, and truly experience that side of Japan.
Students will have several cultural immersion experiences such as a Japanese tea ceremony in Kimono (traditional Japanese gourmet), visiting Tsukiji/Toyosu fish markets, feeding friendly deer in Kyoto and Miyajima, and visiting a Shinto shrine (Temple of traditional Japanese faith).
In Tokyo, students will have the opportunity to explore traditional to popular culture where you can wander ancient temples before rocking out at a karaoke bar! The potential diversity of experience in the world's largest metropolitan area will allow for students to explore sites and experiences in line with personal interests.
