Italy/Greece
Faculty: Steve Classen, Mark Terry
Meeting time: Tuesday 6:30-9:00
Student Cost: $2,200
Explore the roots of Western Civilization in cities like Athens and Rome as you undertake a journey to ancient times and back again. Guided by seasoned travelers Professor Steve Classen (CINE/COMM) and Mark Terry (Art & Design), experience the sights, sounds, scents and flavors of the Mediterranean world as we study in Greece and Italy. Focused on art and culture, your guides will introduce you to world heritage wonders ranging from Michelangelo’s Sistine ceiling to Athens’ Acropolis. We’ll walk in the footsteps of St. Francis as we make pilgrimage to Assisi, and provide context for your liberal studies as we take time to experience ancient, medieval and renaissance sites and masterworks up-close and personal. We’ll also enjoy the contemporary pleasures of Adriatic and Aegean culture and cuisine as we explore the precariously perched seacoast cities of Italy’s Cinque Terre and the Greek Island of Santorini. The trip will conclude with a few days on the beaches and islands of Greece. Designed to provide scaffolding for art, history, and literature, this study will provide a rich complement to any George Fox educational experience.
