Robert Simpson, PhDAssistant Professor of School Psychology
Director of School Psychology Program
I am originally from California but now I call Portland home. My first job in school psychology was with the Whisman School District in Mountain View, Calif. Since then, I’ve worked as a school psychologist in Eugene, Ore., and the Long Beach Unified School District.
If you venture into my office, you may notice trinkets and artwork from my travels in Cambodia, Thailand, Italy and Germany, as well as evidence of my time teaching at Wuhan University in China. I also enjoy both powerboats and sailing and reading historical and popular novels like Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne series. Known by friends as "Condo Bob," I’m no stranger to tight accommodations. In fact, I spent a year living on a 37-foot sailboat with my wife and family.
Education and Professional Experience
I graduated with a Master's in School Psychology from San Jose State University, then worked for the Whisman School District in Mountain View, Calif. Later, I went on for a PhD in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology and worked at San Mateo County Office of Education. In the San Francisco Bay area, I had a private practice and worked as an educational consultant. I also worked as a school psychologist in Eugene, Ore., and in the Long Beach Unified School District.
Areas of Expertise and Interest
I wrote a funded grant for the education and training of autistic children. I also held parent effectiveness training workshops.
