Marina Alcala-Medel

Advancement Operations Specialist, Services

Marina Alcala-Medel first arrived at George Fox as a student in the engineering program. As a work-study student, she grew to love the work she did in the Office of Advancement. Upon graduating, she returned to George Fox initially as a temporary office worker in July of 2017 and later as a staff member in August of 2018.

Marina loves making sure systems are cohesive and processes make sense. "The data we work with is more than just numbers," she says. "Our data represents lives that are being impacted daily by the George Fox community, so it is critical we maintain good data integrity. I love knowing that I’m giving back to my alma mater with skills that I gained during my time as a student."

She values her work because she is continuously growing professionally and enjoys pouring into the lives of work-study students. As the advancement specialist, her main areas of responsibility cover the office's data and research assistant work-study program, donor relations, crowdfunding, and the advancement website.

"As we aim to cultivate a culture of philanthropy on campus and in our community, it is vital that we continue to find innovative ways to care for the relationships we create with students, donors, fundraising groups, and potential supporters," she says.
