Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program Formats and Locations

George Fox has a number of campus sites, making the education process more convenient with shorter commutes. In addition to our main campus located in Newberg, Oregon, the university also provides locations in Portland, Redmond, and Salem. Each site provides full support and service for MAT students. All formats graduate in late April or early May.





Full-Time MAT

  • Full-time
  • 10.5 months (3 semesters)
  • Classes held weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 1
  • Application deadline: February 1
  • Full-Time MAT Plus ESOL and Reading applications due October 1 for those interested in beginning in January. Please contact admissions counselor for details.



MAT In Your Community

  • Part-time 2
  • 16 months (4 semesters)
  • Students meet face-to-face at least one Friday evening and one Saturday each semester. All other classes utilize a virtual delivery method, where students log online at the same time each week.
  • Portland and Salem 3 classes typically meet one evening per week from 6 to 10 p.m. with approximately one Saturday class per month. Redmond may meet two to three evenings per week during the fall, with typically two Saturday meetings per month.

MAT At Night

  • Part-time 2
  • 20 months (5 semesters)
  • Classes meet one evening per week from 6 to 10 p.m. with approximately one Saturday class per month.
  • Application deadline: June 1

Late August


1 Full-time MAT students with a single-subject focus take one night class during the fall semester once a week at the Portland Center campus.

2 The final two semesters in both the MAT In Your Community and MAT At Night formats are full-time in order to complete student-teaching requirements.

3 Single-subject candidates in the Salem cohort are required to complete their pedagogy course at the Portland Center one to two nights a week during the fall semester of the program.
