George Fox men's basketball coach steps downMark Sundquist, the second-longest tenured coach in George Fox University men’s basketball history, will not return for his 14th season after compiling a 137-190 record and winning two Northwest Conference Coach of the Year awards.
Sundquist is leaving to pursue other opportunities. His record at George Fox was 137-190 (.419) overall and 80-128 (.385) in the Northwest Conference.
Sundquist was the Northwest Conference Coach of the Year in 2004-05, when the Bruins went 18-7 and finished second in the Northwest Conference, and again in 2012-13, when the Bruins went 15-11 and finished tied for third in the conference.
Before taking over the George Fox program in 2000, Sundquist previously was the boys basketball coach at Newberg (Ore.) High School and Woodburn (Ore.) High School.
The university would like to thank Mark for the positive influence he had on the many young men he coached during his time at George Fox.
The university will begin its search for a replacement immediately.
George Fox competes in the NCAA Division III as a member of the Northwest Conference, considered by some to be the “Ivy League of the Pacific Northwest.” The vision of the Bruins athletics department is "to be 'the team to beat" in NCAA Division III sports with the most formative athletic experience in the country."
