Rob Bohall, MLIS
Research & Instruction Librarian
Director of Assessment & Institutional Research
Newberg Campus
Born and raised in Virginia, I started at George Fox in August 2011.
What do you do at Fox?
I am a research and instruction librarian, as well as director of assessment. In the library I am responsible for providing instruction and support related to course curriculum in the sciences, business, sociology, and UG social work. I also maintain the library website. My assessment role, which is very part-time, involves helping/nudging all academic and non-academic programs show evidence of quality concerning impact on students.
Education & Experience
MLIS, Library and Information Studies, University of North Carolina at Greensboro
BA, Liberal Arts & Sciences (Sociology, Spanish and Geography), Virginia Tech
I've had a dual focus in my career on librarianship and web development. Past employers included The World Bank, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Western & Southern Financial Group. I also worked as a land surveyor for a year, which was great.
Expertise & Research Interests
I thrive on working to lower barriers for others. This happens through instruction, interface design, research assistance, and personal encouragement.
Primary means of doing this include:
- interface design
- knowledge sharing
- effective data and document management
- optimizing configuration of physical and virtual spaces
- education
- promoting simplicity and efficiency
I also have a strong interest in the experience of Catholics, both within the local parish and in non-Catholic spaces.
What is something you'd like to do in the future?
Sky diving is high on my bucket list, and I greatly enjoy traveling and exploring new places. I'd love to travel to the Holy Land someday, as well as the Vatican.
Beyond the Library
I enjoy running and playing many sports, including soccer, Ultimate, tennis and disc golf. I am a father of four, and can often be found chopping vegetables in the kitchen or listening to podcasts while walking my dog.
