Office: Murdock 114

Midwest born and raised, I moved to Oregon in 2019 and have found a second home among the natural beauty of the Northwest. I love being at the GFU Libraries, where we’re always willing to try something new in the name of supporting our students and faculty.

What do you do at Fox?

I am the Research & Instruction Librarian for Art & Design, Cinematic Arts, Communication, Engineering, English, History, the Honors Program, Music, Politics, Sociology, Spanish, and Theatre. I also head library efforts to enhance First Year Experience and serve on the General Education Committee.

As the First Year Experience Librarian, I focus on introducing students to the library in fun and engaging ways, empowering them to use the library as they need it whether they are doing intense research or just need to borrow a phone charger.

Education and Experience

MS, Library and Information Science, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
BA, Political Science, Calvin University (formerly Calvin College)

Before coming to Fox, I worked extensively in educational assessment in preschool and higher education.

Expertise and Research Interests

My academic research centers on libraries’ contribution to student success and retention. In recent years, I have presented at library conferences on the representation of libraries and librarians in college textbooks and helped to build the Mysteries of Murdock first-year-student event at Fox. I prioritize equity, and have expertise in practical library assessment, information literacy, and research in the social sciences.

Beyond the Library

I love getting outside to hike, kayak, and camp with my husband. In the past few years, we have been building an extensive board game collection and love almost all euro-games. Though we are currently attending an Anglican church in Newberg, I have also enjoyed worshipping at non-denominational, Baptist, Christian Reformed, and Evangelical Free churches.
