2019 Award Recipients

Director's Award

To honor the graduate who has exemplified scholarship, excellence in character, the ability to lead, and has demonstrated both written and oral communication skills.

This award is the highest honor a graduate can receive from the School of Nursing.

 

Cayla Smith

As Cayla enters the field of nursing she is looking forward to finding ways to pursue her passion for social justice and advocacy of those in the margins. She is excited about furthering her education and potentially using her nursing degree overseas on the mission field. Her long term goal is to pursue a career in trauma and critical care.

Outstanding Student Award

The Outstanding Senior Award honors a graduate who exemplifies the mission and values of George Fox University and the School of Nursing. This student consistently demonstrates integrity, excellence, compassion, caring, service, and critical thinking.

                                             
Mikayla Allen                        Alyssa Burch

 

Mikayla hopes to enter into the workforce as a pediatric nurse upon graduating from George Fox University. She has long term dreams to create diverse and accessible health education curriculum to empower vulnerable populations to take health into their hands.

Alyssa wishes to work in an ICU caring for vulnerable and critically ill patients. Her long term goal is to further her education and eventually work in a nursing leadership role like her mother. Above all, Alyssa hopes to always seek God first in her work and use her talents to serve Him everyday.

 

Outstanding Colleague

To honor the graduate who has been chosen by their peers as exemplifying attributes of collegiality, being a team player, mentorship, support, approachability, honesty, kindness, compassion and respect for others.

 

Craig Lee

Craig will be going on his first medical missions trip in June through the GFU Nursing program before beginning his career.  He has no idea where he’ll be working. He has applied for many jobs and hopes to get one related to pediatrics, critical care, obstetrics, mental health… or whatever Jesus puts in front of him.

 

Caring Award

The Caring Award recognizes a graduate who strives to emulate the mission and philosophy of the Department of Nursing. The student regularly integrates faith, compassion, altruism, diversity and holistic health care. The student demonstrates an interest in nursing to the global community and is dedicated to the pursuit of life-long learning.

Alexandria Baker

Alex is pleased to be starting a new season of life. She is excited for the opportunities that the Lord has in her future nursing profession. Her vision is not specific yet, but she is interested in many areas of nursing. Her desire to help people with her nursing-based knowledge is strong and will take her far in her career.

 

Clinical Excellence Award

The Clinical Excellence Award honors a graduate who has consistently demonstrated the most outstanding innovation, creativity and insight in nursing practice. This student has consistently met all core competencies and has shown an eagerness to seek out new learning experiences. Staff, colleagues, preceptors and faculty have recognized a positive attitude and rapport throughout their nursing education.

Brooke is excited to begin her career working at OHSU on one of the medicine units and hopes to continue her education in the years to come. Working with people is her passion and above all else, she hopes be an empathetic nurse who inspires peace and hope to those around her.

Golden Lamp Award

The Honor Award recognizes a graduate who has demonstrated consistently high scholastic achievement (3.75 grade point average or better - calculated through Fall semester of the senior year), professional integrity and potential for leadership in the field of nursing.

Drew Brontager

Drew is looking forward to a nursing career in the Emergency Department.  His long term goal is to earn his degree as a Nurse Practitioner.

 

Honor Award

The Golden Lamp Award will be awarded to a senior student who has shown scholastic achievement, leadership, innovative contributions and humanitarian ideals. Based on the American Nurses Association Code for professional nurses and the Florence Nightingale Pledge, the award recognizes outstanding work of an undergraduate student with the nursing profession.

Hannah Love

 

Hannah is excited to begin her career as a professional nurse. She has envisioned a career in neonatal or pediatric nursing, however she is open to wherever she believes God is calling her to serve. In the future, Hannah would like to participate in medical missions, and she has considered going back to school to become a nurse practitioner.

 

Transcultural Learning Award


The Transcultural Nursing Award honors the graduate who has made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of safe nursing care for individuals, families, and/or groups recognizing diversity, ethnicity and color. This student has shown flexibility and a respect for others view points with a growing cultural understanding and sensitivity.
     

              
   Acarey Rosa-Hadley                              Ashley Imes

 

Acarey and her husband are being obedient to a call God placed on their lives. They will move to the Dominican Republic in July, Acarey will be working in community health as the first ever School Nurse at a Christian school. She is excited to optimize the health of each child and help break the cycle of poverty in this community.

Ashley's dream is to advocate for vulnerable populations and to make sure families have access to the healthcare and resources they need, no matter their circumstances. This passion has been placed on her heart and she hopes to fulfill her calling in rural Kenya full-time in the future.
