The Hy Vista Retreat Center, featuring a 7,000-square-foot home located on a 15-acre plot of land atop Parrett Mountain, is an ideal setting to host your next event. Whether it’s a team-building retreat, holiday gathering or a board meeting, Hy Vista provides a relaxing atmosphere for your team. Continue reading to find out more and begin the booking process.

Hy Vista is used to enhance the spiritual mission of George Fox University and provide an environment for:

  • Individual reflection and prayer

  • Outdoor gatherings as weather permits
If interested in reserving Hy Vista for your next event, please fill out our request form at least one month in advance. You will be notified by email when the request is approved. 

The House

The venue is a house that accommodates no more than 25 people at a time. Outdoor gatherings could accommodate 50 to 75 people (larger groups will require approval by the Executive Team). There are 15 parking spaces available, so carpooling is required for larger gatherings.

Upper Level: Casual

  • Living room with casual seating for 10 (a group of six and group of four). Additional folding chairs available if needed.
  • Small dining room with a table for six
  • Kitchen to facilitate serving area and a small table for four
  • Two conference-type meeting rooms with table and chairs overlooking the back fountain area.

Upper Level: Conference-Style Breakout Rooms

  • 6 person room with floor to ceiling windows, padded chairs and a whiteboard
  • 8 person room overlooking the back patio with office chairs, whiteboard and large screen for presentations.

Lower Level

  • Large meeting room with flexible seating for 15
  • Library with casual seating for 12 (books are not to be taken from the facility)

The grounds of the center provide several landscaped areas for quiet reflection.


  • George Fox Department Events Half-day events (up to four hours): $350 per date
  • George Fox Department Events Full-day events (5-8 hours): $500 per date
  • George Fox Department Events 8-10 hours $750 per date
  • External Event Half-Day (up to 4 hours) $700 per date
  • External Event Full Day  (5-10 hours) $1225 per date

For internal use, a person from the group will be assigned as host and be responsible for a completing a checklist of items for use, which will be provided to the host prior to the event. The host is required to complete an interdepartmental charge form and transfer funds to: 49700-10000-860000-AX400-NBG. Please scan a copy to Michelle Dawson at with date sent to Financial Affairs.

Hy Vista is not available for rent to External Organizations.

It is recommended, although not required, to use Bon Appetit, our campus food service Provider, for catering services. At times, Bon Appetit may practice a right to refuse the request if the requested order is not financially suitable for either party. If another caterer is used, it is the responsibility of the organizer to let George Fox University know who they are contracted with and to receive a copy of the contract to verify there are no concerns.

If the kitchen facilities are used for any catering purpose, the kitchen must be cleaned to its original state prior to departing the center. The Hy Vista kitchen is not equipped with cooking utensils; that is the responsibility of the caterer.

When another caterer is utilized, the event requestor is responsible for submitting a check request and invoice to Financial Affairs to pay for services.

There is a clean-up checklist that will be provided to you. It is your responsibility to fill it out at the end of your event as well as collect any garbage and bring it back into town for disposal.

Cancellation notice must be received in writing and sent via email to  Director of Conference and Event Services, Lisa Leslie at Cancellation of rented space must be received a minimum of 14 business days prior to the event date to avoid cancellation fees. Cancellation notices received less than five business days prior to the event date will incur a cancellation fee assessed at 50 percent of the room rental rate.

The organization is responsible to pay full room rental rate if cancellation notice is received five or less business days prior to the event date. A “no-show” is assessed at full payment.

If the university closes due to inclement weather, all external events are automatically canceled without fee. Organizations forced to cancel due to inclement weather will be given priority in rescheduling their events within a 45-day window. It is the responsibility of the organization to check for school closures due to inclement weather and notify participants accordingly. The university will not notify organizations when the closure is publicly announced.

No. Hy Vista was designed to be a technology-free zone.  There is DSL WIFI, which is sufficient for checking email or other low bandwidth uses. 

Campus users: if the use of a projector and/or screen is required it is the responsibility of the host to contact MPS at Due to the demands placed on the Institutional Technology (IT) staff it is the responsibility of the host or designated member of the group to pick up the equipment from the IT desk at the Newberg campus. IT processes for checking out, use of and return of equipment are to be followed. 

Due to our somewhat remote location, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon are the best available carriers. However, with the beautiful trees surrounding the property, coverage can be spotty and unreliable

There are approximately 15 parking spaces available, so carpooling is encouraged.

No. Due to the wildlife that abounds at Hy Vista, we do not allow pets. Well-behaved, documented service animals are welcome.

We are a smoke-free campus.
