About Leroy and Donna

Together, Leroy and Donna Barber have spent nearly thirty years dedicating their lives to eradicating poverty, confronting homelessness, restoring local communities, healing racism, and living what Dr. King called, “the beloved community.”

In various urban contexts, the Barbers have been involved (and often started) projects that transform lives - from founding a homeless ministry in Philadelphia to launching a community coffee shop in Atlanta, to name a few.

Leroy is currently the Global Executive Director of Word Made Flesh, an international organization that works among the most vulnerable of the world’s poor. Rev. Barber, an ordained Baptist minister, also serves on the boards of Mission Year (which he previously served as president of for several years) and the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA).

Donna’s expertise is in children and youth development, having founded two private Christian schools and created and directed an assortment of urban kid’s clubs, day camps, after school programs and more.

The Barbers have been married nearly thirty years and together they have five children.
