To apply for an exemption, students need to fill out a Housing Petition form through our Housing and Community Life Portal. Please note that petitions are for students facing significant financial difficultly, and most requests that fall outside of university policy are not considered.

Deadlines to submit exemption requests are as follows:

  • For requests to be processed before Housing Selection: March 1st
  • For all fall appeals and exemptions: May 31st
  • For all spring appeals and exemptions: December 1st

Requests presented after these dates may not be considered.

How to fill out a Housing Petition online:

  1. Enter the Housing and Community Life Portal and select the "Forms" option from the main menu.
  2. Select the appropriate term for your petition.
  3. Select "Housing Petition" from the list of available forms.
  4. Fill out all of the information requested on the form.
  5. University Housing will contact you about the status of your form.

Students applying for an exemption should still go through housing selection. If their exemption request is accepted, their cancellation fee will be waived.
